  40. Intrinsic safety is related to the chance that an electrical or
  41. electronic device can initiate an explosion in a flammable
  42. atmosphere.  Div 1 has the explosive atmosphere present at all
  43. times.  Intrinsic safety requires that two improbable failures
  44. occur before ignition energy is present.  Div 2 has the explosive
  45. atmosphere present only as the result of an improbable event. So,
  46. only one improbable failure failure is required for an explosion.
  47. This is called the non-incendive category.  In either case, two
  48. improbable events are required to ignite an explosive atmosphere.
  49. The Classes refer to vapor, dust, and other mixtures in air.

  86. 14.4K? Whazzat - we're running STU-IIIs at 4800bps on Standard M terminals.
  87. The voice quality is nothing to write home about. But it IS readable.

  89. And I never said it'd be EASY to get the STU-IIIs. (Um, but it is not all
  90. THAT hard to get DES encoder chips.... A trio of them with different keys
  91. CAN provide very good security for many applications. Of course they too are
  92. <cough> munitions. But as small as they are smuggling is easier I suspect.
  93. Of course the Europeans and Asians have access to homegrown efforts.... The
  94. hard part is the digital voice algorithms.
